THERMAGE
Thermage is an FDA approved non-invasive skin tightening procedure using safe radiofrequency waves delivered by the ThermaCool device. The radiofrequency energy penetrates 2-4mm into the top layer of the skin and creates a heating effect to the deep dermis. The thermal injury produced results in rejuvenation of existing collagen and elastin fibers and stimulation of new collagen growth. Over the course of six months, there is gradual improvement with noticeably smoother and tighter skin.
Before and after each radiofrequency pulse, the skin surface is cooled (resulting in no change to the epidermis of the skin and therefore no downtime). The intensity of the pulse is adjusted to maximize benefit and minimize discomfort.
Thermage is indicated for those with mild skin laxity. It can be applied to the face, forehead, eyelids, hands, abdomen, thighs or arms. Patients of all skin types and colors can have Thermage as it does not affect skin pigment like lasers and other resurfacing procedures. Since there is no scarring or damage to the skin surface, the procedure can be safely performed on patients with a history of keloids or acne. Only patients who are pregnant, use Accutane, or have implanted mechanical devices pacemakers, defibrillaors, infusion pumps, etc) are not able to undergo this procedure.
